You can access MySQL either through cmd/terminal or through localhost/phpmyadmin page.

Through command window
Start cmd (in windows8 just type cmd in search.) and locate the directory where you have bin folder.

Example

c:\ cd C:\mysql\mysql5.6.17\bin

Then type -u your_mysql_username -p your_mysql_password. If you have not set it before then by default root is the username and by default there is no password just leave it empty.

Example

c:\mysql\bin> -u root -p
